The project will include a power plant, a port, and supporting infrastructure. Once completed, it will meet the power and steam requirements of Qili Aluminum’s production, ensuring a higher self-sufficiency rate and a stable alumina supply, which is crucial for the company’s sustainable development.
According to PMETAL’s release on September 18, 2024, the company plans to construct an alumina refinery in Sanggau with an initial production capacity of 1 to 1.2 million metric tonnes (Phase 1), with the potential to double output in a future expansion. The total investment for Phase 1 is estimated at US$ 750 million (equivalent to RM3.238 billion). Press Metal holds an 80% equity stake in KAN, while PT Alakasa Alumina Refineri (AAR) and PT Dinamika Sejahtera Mandiri (DSM) own 19.77% and 0.23%, respectively.
