Update: Freeport provides chronology of Freeport landslide

PT Freeport Indonesia has provided the chronology of the landslide which has killed an Australian citizen mining contractor. Papua police spokesman Commander Wachyono said yesterday that the mining contractor was driving a Ford pick-up when the landslide hit his car, following heavy rain in the area.

Ramdani Sirait, spokesperson of PT Freeport Indonesia told Petromindo.Com that on Monday August 1, 2011 around 15.00 eastern Indonesia time (EIT) a landslide struck at Mile Post 73, a mining access road within the working area of PT Freeport Indonesia in town of Tembagapura, West Papua.

At 06.15 EIT on August 2, 2011, a light car was found on a river by the side of road between Mile Post 72 and 73. An evacuation is being carried out in a difficult area and strong river current. The latest information confirmed that the landslide has killed a mining operator, who is an employee of PT Redpath Indonesia, a contractor partner of PT Freeport Indonesia. (godang)
