The state tin mining firm PT Tambang Timah has dropped its plans to develop the Belinyo subdistrict in Bangka Island to become and industrial zone following the failure of the Bakrie & Brothers Group to relocate its steel industry there, according to Timah president Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas.

Bakrie was supposed to be Timah's partner in developing the Belinyo area.

He said that the failure of Bakrie was due to "technical reasons." He didn't elaborate.

But Erry vowed that he would continue to promote Bangka Island as an industrial zone including by inviting foreign diplomats to the area.

Bangka Island is the home-base of Timah.(*)
