Three people killed in ambush near Freeport mine

Three people have been killed in an ambush near PT Freeport Indonesia's Grasberg mine on Friday, spokesperson of Freeport Indonesia, Ramdani Sirait said.

Ramdani said one was injured in the incident.

The shooting incident occurred as Freeport workers hold a month-long strike that almost paralyzes the operation of Freeport.

?There has been shooting incident in an access road (to Freeport),? said Ramdani.

Ramdani said the location of shooting incident was several miles north of the location of an ambush on October 14, 2011.

The identity of gunmen is not known yet.

?One employee of a contractor firm, two non-employees have died and one person is injured during the incident,? Ramdani said.

The victims had been taken to Kuala hospital, to be later flown to Java. The police has not provided more detail information about the incident. (godang)
