An education foundation planned to build a mining high school in Sumbawa island, West Nusa Tenggara, lured by the operation of copper and gold mining company PT Newmont Nusa Tengara on the island, Bali Post reported.

Chairman of the Mercury Education Foundation Khairuddin said on Wednesday the Ministry of Education and Sumbawa regent had promised allocate a 5-hectare plot of land for the school facilities.

Khairuddin expected the construction of the school to be completed in the school year of 2000/2001.

Khairuddin believed the local people's interest to study in the school will be high given the operation of Newmont in the regency.

The foundation will recruit teachers from Newmont and the Mining School of the Institute Technology of Bandung in West Java. (*)
