Subang offers potential for new industrial estate development

New industrial estates are expected to be developed in Subang Regency, West Java Province, as the government is developing a new deep sea port called the Patimban port in the regency.

State news agency Antara said that one of the companies which have unveiled plans to develop a new industrial park in the regency is IDX-listed property developer PT Surya Semesta Internusa Tbk.

Antara reported on Monday that Surya Semesta plans to develop a 2,000-ha industrial park in Subang, of which the first phase of 250-ha was scheduled to start construction in the first quarter of this year, with estimated investment of Rp 1.5 trillion.

The plan comes as construction of the Patimban port is progressing well.  Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi has said that construction of the first phase of the Patimban port project is expected to be completed at the end of this year.

According to Budi, Patimban Port is a ‘prestigious’ project with the cargo capacity of 3.5 million TEUs for phase I, 5.5 million TEUs in phase II and will reach 7.5 million TEUs in phase III.

“This is a giant project with cargo capacity as big as Tanjung Priok port (the country’s largest port) in North Jakarta. Together with Kertajati Airport, Patimban-Kertajati-Cirebon City will be a very strategic area in West Java,” Budi said, adding that the movement of goods will also be split between Tanjung Priok port and this port.

However, to support mobility the government will also build roads to connect the port with the existing toll roads, Budi said. (*)
