PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (SMGP), operator of PLTP Sorik Marapi geothermal power plant, has completed the commissioning test of its last unit.
“Over a 72-hour performance test, our newly installed Unit 5 successfully demonstrated a generation capacity of 35 MW, complementing the output of the existing four units,” Zammy Sarmiento, Global CTO of Kaishan, said on Tuesday.
"With this milestone, KS Orka Renewables proudly joins the prestigious group as the fourth company in Indonesia currently operating a single geothermal field with a capacity of 200 MW or more, marking a significant advancement in sustainable energy development,” he added.

SMGP operates the Sorik Marapi geothermal power plant in Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra. Unit-1 and Unit-2 each have a capacity of 45 MW, Unit-3 has a capacity of 50 MW, and Unit-4 has a capacity of 39.6 MW.
The development of the Sorik Marapi concession continues with the goal of achieving a total generating capacity of 240 MW by 2024, with five geothermal power plant units.
KS Orka Renewables owns 95% of SMGP, while PT Supraco Indonesia, a subsidiary of RUIS, holds the remaining 5%. KS Orka Renewables is majority-owned by Kaishan Group (China), with Hugar Orka ehf (Iceland) as a minority shareholder.
