Samarinda revokes four mining licenses

Head of the Samarinda Mining Office, Hery Suriansyah said that the IUPs were revoked because the mining companies had caused damage to the environment and breached local regulations including failing to provide reclamation funds.
The companies whose IUPs have been revoked include PT Bumi Betuah, CV Prima Coal Mining, CV Infraenergi Buana Utama, and CV Rinda Kaltim Anugerah. Hery said that the administration had given prior warnings to these companies before revoking their mining permits.
Hery said that environmental destruction by coal miners is a serious issue and has been closely monitored by the public. Therefore, the administration is taking firm approach in helping to protect the environment.(*)
