Risun to soon start coke production in C. Sulawesi

PT Risun Wei Shan Indonesia, a subsidiary of Chinese integrated coke, coking chemicals and refined chemicals producer China Risun Group Limited, plans to start coke production in June of this year at its facility in the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP), Central Sulawesi Province.

This was revealed by Yang Lu, Executive Director of Risun Group Co Ltd at the 2nd Asia Coal Outlook & Trade Summit in Bangkok on Monday.

“The (total annual) coke production capacity (that) will be finished is 4.8 million tons and we are looking at 3.2 million tons of capacity will be ready by the end of this year.  The project has 6 coking batteries, each battery has 65 coking ovens ... The first coking battery with an annual capacity of 800,000 tons started heating-up on April 8, 2023 and coke production will start on June 28, 2023. There will be 3 other coking batteries coming into production in the following months. Each coking battery has an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons,” he explained.

Yang Lu added the US$830 million project will produce two grades of coke including Grade I with moisture of 5%, CSR (coke strength after reaction) 65%, CRI (coke reactivity index) 25%, ash 12%, sulfur 0.6%, VM (volatile matter) 1.3% and granularity 30-90 mm; and Grade II with moisture 5%, CSR 62%, CRI 28%, ash 12.5%, sulfur 0.65%, VM 1.3% and granularity 30-90 mm.

Risun is the major shareholder, with Tsingshan, Delong, Shagang, Nangjing Steel, Zhongwei Group as non-controlling shareholders of this project.
