At least 75 villagers at the Sungai Rangau village in Riau province has seized since Tuesday at least 15 vehicles owned by PT Caltex Pasific Indonesia (CPI) and its partners after being rejected to work at the companies, Riau Pos reported on Friday.
The daily reported that the villagers stopped all the cars owned by the oil company and its contractors passing their village and then seized them as the companies showed no attention to meet their demand to employ them.
This is the second time the villagers seized the company's cars. The first one was carried few months ago but they agreed to end their protest after the companies promised to consider their demand.
The villagers said that Caltex and its contractors such as PT Sinar Riau, PT Sani Utama, PT Supraco and PT Isis Mega and PT Bromindo, which carry out their activities near the village, pay no attention at all to the local residents. (*)
