State electricity company PLN said on Friday it would open EPC tender for the construction of 600-MW Muara Tawar combined cycle power plant in Bekasi, West Java in January 13, this year.

?Tender document is available from January 13 to 17,? said W. Sulaiman, PLN?s business development vice president.

Sulaiman said one of the eligibility requirements for the tender is that the contenders must be led by Indonesian companies.

He said PLN will decide the winner ?as soon as possible? since the target was to complete the construction by year-end.

He estimated the cost to build the power plant at around US$ 400 million.

Meanwhile, PLN?s director of finance Parno Isworo said that the company is in talks with Bank Mandiri and several foreign banks to finance the construction.

The Muara tawar power plant is aimed to partly ease acute power shortage in Java. Sulaiman said, until gas contract is clinched and pipeline from South Sumatra to west Java is built, the power plant will burn diesel oil. (arry)
