The state electricity company PLN is negotiating two power transmission projects in Java because the value of the contract is deemed unrealistic, PLN president Kuntoro Mangkusubroto said in a press statement.

Kuntoro was quoted by the Bisnis Indonesia daily as saying that the two transmission projects were Lot 1: 500/150 kV conventional switchgear in Tasikmalaya, West Java, and Lot 3: 500/150 kV conventional switchgear in Babat, Kediri, and GIL Paiton in Central Java.

"We think that the cost of the two projects are relatively higher compared to other similar projects. We're now renegotiating it with the contractors to lower the price," Kuntoro said in a statement.

The Lot 1 project is developed by a consortium involving PT Ritra Safitri and PT Cita contract with total project value of US$41.14 million plus Rp 15.21 billion (US$1=Rp 8,800), while the Lot 3 project is developed by PT Pembangunan Perumahan and PT Indokomas Buana Perkasa with total project value of US$ 68.21 million plus Rp 33.94 billion.

The two projects were tendered in July 1997.

Kuntoro said that the two power transmission projects was crucial for PLN's Java power system.

He also thanked the press for revealing the case of the two power transmission projects. (*)
