PLN embraces hydrogen as key to Indonesia's clean energy transition

Jakarta - PT PLN (Persero) is accelerating its push into hydrogen, positioning the fuel as a cornerstone of Indonesia’s strategy to meet its 2060 Net Zero Emission target. Ricky Cahya Andrian, PLN’s Vice President of Decarbonization, outlined the company’s plans to integrate hydrogen into power generation, transportation, and export markets.

The state utility’s efforts include launching pilot projects for hydrogen power plants and refueling stations, while collaborating with technology companies and research institutions. PLN also targets the commercialization of hydrogen-fueled vehicles by 2026, with Indonesia’s first hydrogen refueling station already operational in Jakarta.

Green hydrogen, produced using renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, is at the heart of PLN’s decarbonization strategy. Indonesia’s abundance of renewable energy resources could make the country a major player in the global hydrogen market, potentially exporting hydrogen to countries like Singapore.
