PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), the upstream subsidiary of state-owned energy giant PT Pertamina, has announced an average production of 556,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 2.8 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD) of natural gas for 2024, contributing to Indonesia's energy security.

The production figures were driven by the company’s five operational regions.

Oil production breakdown by region:

  • Region 1 (Sumatra): 203,000 BOPD
  • Region 2 (Java): 54,000 BOPD
  • Region 3 (Kalimantan): 58,000 BOPD
  • Region 4 (Eastern Indonesia): 85,000 BOPD
  • Region 5 (Overseas): 156,000 BOPD

Natural gas production breakdown by region:

  • Region 1 (Sumatra): 823 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD)
  • Region 2 (Java): 356 MMSCFD
  • Region 3 (Kalimantan): 622 MMSCFD
  • Region 4 (Eastern Indonesia): 653 MMSCFD
  • Region 5 (Overseas): 375 MMSCFD

PHE said it has intensified efforts to support Indonesia’s energy self-sufficiency with a series of key initiatives in development drilling, well interventions, and workover activities. In 2024, PHE completed 814 development wells, an increase from 801 wells in 2023. The company also executed 919 workover wells in 2024, surpassing the 844 wells completed the previous year. Additionally, PHE conducted 33,687 well intervention jobs, up from 31,686 in 2023.

In addition, a number of initiatives have been carried out to increase production figures. Development of new subsurface reinterpretation results such as those carried out at Gunung Kemala with an average initial production of 735 BOPD.

Another initiative is the development of stepout/nearfield/interfield wells to obtain hydrocarbon potential in new areas, one of which is in Lembak-Kemang-Tapus with an initial production of 1,700 BOPD. Then, the implementation of completion technology in the form of multi-stage fracturing (MSF) in the horizontal well of the Kotabatak field which succeeded in increasing well production with initial production at 523 BOPD.

Another effort is to accelerate the POP (Put on Production) of exploration wells so that they can directly contribute to increasing oil and gas production even though it is less than 1 year since discovery. Acceleration of POP of exploration wells has been carried out in East Pondok Aren, Astrea, and Pinang East.

In addition, the Pertamina Upstream Sub-holding is also carrying out further development of steamflood in the Duri field through the North Duri Development project, development of Low Quality Reservoir through massive fracturing activities of 169 jobs throughout 2024, and Waterflood EOR on new structures such as Tanjung, Handil, Pager and E-Main.

"We are grateful for all these achievements, we also express our gratitude to all stakeholders who have always supported the company's operational activities so that they can run smoothly. This is the result of hard work and collaboration of all Officers and Partners involved in accordance with the core values of AKHLAK (Trusted, Competent, Harmonious, Loyal, Adaptive and Collaborative)," said Chalid Said Salim, President Director of PHE, in a statement.
