President of state owned gas distribution firm PT Perum Gas Negara (PGN) A. Qoyum Tjandranegara said on Thursday that his firm was ready to lower the selling price of its gas to customers but a presidential decree on the price cut has yet to be issued.
He said that the planned gas price cut would reach up to 30 percent for industrial customers.
"But this can't be realized yet because the price decision is based on a presidential decree which has yet to be issued," Qoyum said.
He said that planned price cut was made in a bid to provide incentive to use more gas as an alternative source of energy to fuel.
He said that gas energy was cheaper and Indonesia has a huge reserves of gas which is enough for a 50 years under the current consumption rate.
Qoyum said that gas was important because Indonesia was projected to be a net oil importer in the next 15 years.(*)
