PGE completes drilling at Hululais geothermal well

PT Pertamina Geothernal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of state owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero) has completed the drilling of HLS-E/1 well in Bengkulu.

 

 

 

The well drilled to depth of 3,203 meters is thus far the deepest well ever drilled in the country, the firm said in a statement.

 

 

 

The well was spudded on Nov. 28, 2015 and the drilling using a rig of N110/M3-28 type owned by sister company PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (PDSI). The drilling was completed on March 12.

 

 

 

Previously, the deepest geothermal well status was held by AWI 9-9 well in Salak Mountain geothermal field in West Java, which has a depth of 3170 meters.

 

 

 

The potentials of the HLS-E/1 well are promising, the firm said.

 

 

 

The Hululais project is located in Lebong regency, 180 km away from the city of Bengkulu. PGE plans to develop two power units each with the capacity of 55 MW each. The first unit is expected to come onstream in January 2018, the second one in December 2019.
