Pertamina EP Adera field successfully adds production by 751 BOPD

PT Pertamina EP, a Production Sharing Contractor (PSC) under the auspices of SKK Migas which is also a subsidiary of Pertamina (Persero), has successfully added oil production by 751 BOPD from BNG-A1 Well in Adera Field. The production volume represents 500% of the initial target of 150 BOPD.

The oil and gas production from BNG-A1 well has equivalently reached 819 barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOEPD) or 145% from the target of 565 BOEPD, although gas production reaches 0.4 MMSCFD.

Astri Pujianto, General Manager of Pertamina EP (PEP) Asset 2, said that the drilling program needs adjustments due to the stringent health protocol for preventing the transmission of COVID-19. This requires regular health screenings carried out and certainly limiting some activities.

"However, God willing, the (drilling) activities can be carried out, even faster than the specific target time," said Astri on Friday (15/1).

This drilling program utilizes Rig PDSI D1500-E/53 1500HP. It was initially targeted to be carried out for 52 calendar days, but it was  then completed in 48 calendar days. This results in significant cost and time efficiency.

Doctor Nirwan Abidin, Medical Supervisor of PEP Asset 2, said that the health protocol was adjusted during the crew change and personnel operations while in the field. There are differences when carrying out drilling operations during normal times and during a pandemic, such as medical test screening when engineers and operators enter the project site. All personnel are required to quarantine for four days and then carry out a PCR test. Once the results are negative and they are declared fit to go to the location, then the personnel is allowed to enter the project site.

"On the other hand, if the results are positive and (the personnel are) not fit, the workers are not allowed to enter the location or working site," said dr. Nirwan.

Nirwan added that even though drilling activities were carried out with adjustments to health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, drilling activities could be carried out safely, smoothly and safely.

The well drilling activity was carried out after the completion of drilling in the K1 layer of the Talang Akar Formation (TAF) West Block Benuang Structure, which has never been produced by the nearby wells. The last drilling in the Benuang Structure within West Block was carried out in 1986, therefore this success will certainly, turn into a new potential and open up opportunities to increase production in the Adera Field.

Adang Sukmatiawan, PEP Asset 2 Exploitation Senior Manager, said that the success of BNG-A1 well drilling in early 2021 has encouraged the EPT Asset 2 Team to look for new reservoirs or oil reserves that have never been produced and evaluate the subsurface inter-field potentials.

"We are also working with the Drilling and Work Over team to mitigate the potential risk of drilling hazards that may be encountered," said Adang.

Adera Field currently produces oil of 1,933 bopd and gas of 9.9 mmscfd. Based on SKK Migas' Integrated Operating System (SOT) data at the end of January 2021 year-to-date, PEP Asset 2 crude oil production stood at 17,730 bopd, while natural gas production was around 335 mmscfd. Asset 2's oil and gas production comes from the Prabumulih, Limau, Adera and Pendopo fields.
