OPEC quota not easy to meet: official

Director General of oil and gas Rachmat Sudibyo said on Wednesday that it would be not easy for Indonesia to meet its new OPEC quota in October.

"I admit that it will be not easy to increase production in such a quick period. Out of a number of oil and gas contractors, maybe only a few are ready (to increase production)," he told reporters on the sidelines of the IIOGE oil and gas conference.

Indonesia has been assigned by OPEC to increase its oil production by 41,000 barrel per day starting next month. The increase in OPEC oil production is aimed to help lower soaring oil prices.

Rachmat said that Indonesia's oil production was currently near its optimum level. But he also said that new oil wells developed by several oil companies could further increase the country's overall oil production, albeit not too significant.

"I will not name the companies, but they still have ability to raise production," he said. (R. Amoros)
