Newmont starts trial production in NTB

PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) has proven gold reserves of about 11.8 million try ounces and copper deposit of 10.6 million tons in its Batu Hijau mining operation in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), the company's senior executive has said.

Rirchard B. Ness, the president of PT Newmont Pacific Nusantara, which overseas the Newmont operations in Nusatenggara and North Sulawesi, said here on Monday that NNT had started trial productions in the mining site and had shipped 30,000 tons of gold deposit concentrate to Japan for processing.

Speaking at a hearing with the House of Representatives, Ness said that the company would be able to produce 615 million pounds of copper and 515,000 troy ounces of gold a year when the commercial production activities entered its full capacity.

The company also exported its gold and copper concentrates to India, Germany, Australia and South Korea. (*)
