The Ministry of Public Works and People’s Housing has allocated Rp 1.1 trillion this year to improve and expand road access to four national strategic tourist destination areas including Danau Toba Lake in North Sumatra Province, Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Lombok Island in West Nusa Tenggara, and Labuan Bajo fishing town in East Nusa Tenggara.

The ministry said in a statement Friday that the funds will be used to finance the rehabilitation of roads and bridges, construction of new roads and bridges, and others.  “Better road access will support the activities in the tourism areas,” said Minister of Public Works and People’s Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said.

The four tourist destination areas are part of the “Ten New Bali” program of the government to help increase visitors to ten tourism areas.  Bali Island is the country’s most popular tourism destination.
