Minister of Environment Sonny Keraf appealed to the public not to be skeptical on the integrated audit team formed to verify the wrongdoings allegedly committed by giant gold mining firm PT Freeport Indonesia.
Sonny was quoted by the Neraca daily as saying that the integrate team consisted of experts from various sectors to eliminate the possibility of collusion and manipulation of the investigation work.
He admitted that there's concern of the public of possible manipulation because past audit work always resulted in the positive list of Freeport operation.
Freeport has been allegedly committed various mistakes including environmental destruction.
Many have called on the government to review the Freeport mining contract or even to terminate it. (*)
