PT MGA Utama Energi, operator of the Sepanjang and Pagerungan Utara Block in Sumenep, Madura Island, East Java Province, has recently conducted surface production tests of two wells in relation to the Sepanjang oil field reactivation program.
MGA Utama Energi Operation Manager, Nurdi Irianto said in a statement that the surface production test on 9 November 2023 on SED#4 well flowing recorded a production rate of 4,500 bopd by 12/64” and 16/64” choke.
Meanwhile, the SED#3 well, pumped by ESP Reda 180 HP, resulted in oil output rate of 3,800 bopd.
The Sepanjang oil field reactivation program was started in mid-2022. The activities included the re-installation of separator production facilities, maintenance and repair of x-tree wellhead, and repair of pipelines.
MGA Utama holds a 100 percent interest in the Sepanjang and Pagerungan Utara Block, which was acquired on 12 January 2023. The block contains two oil fields, namely Sepanjang Field and Pagerungan Utara Offshore (PUO) Field. The block was initially operated by ARBNI, which was then replaced by KEI Ltd until 2018.
The Sepanjang Island #1 exploration well was drilled in 1990, with an oil discovery of 1400-2800 bopd from drill stem test (DST) in the Ngimbang Carbonate reservoir.
The Sepanjang Field development was made during the KEI Ltd. operatorship, following the approval of plan of development (POD) in 2005. The field was then shut-in by the end of December 2011. The corresponding oil recovery was 1.59 MMSTB produced from the three horizontal wells, SED-1A, SED-3, and SED-4.
The PUO oil field was discovered by Cities Service following the drilling of JS-53A1 exploratory well in 1977 and JS-53A2 delineation well in 1985.
The reservoir was originally interpreted as carbonate reef build-up of Eocene Ngimbang formation. After getting POD approval from the then upstream authority BPMIGAS in 2005, EMPK Ltd. (KEI) drilled 3 wells in 2006, namely the PUO-3 vertical delineation well in the middle part of PUO structure, PUO-1A and PUO-2A as horizontal development wells. The field was shut-in in 2012 with cumulative oil of 0.8 MMSTB.
