PT MGA Utama Energi, the operator of the Sepanjang and Pagerungan Utara Block in Sumenep, Madura Island, East Java Province, forecasts oil production of 4,000-6,000 barrels per day (bpd) from the Sepanjang Field following a recent re-activation program.
MGA said in a statement Monday that as the capacity of the existing shore production storage facility is only approximately 6,000 barrels, a floating storage capacity of 100,000-150,000 barrels is needed.
“With potential sales of approximately 60,000 – 70,000 bbls per 2 weeks, cargo lifting operation per 2 weeks or 24t times per year near Sesil Island anchorage area will be expected,” the company said.

As previously reported, MGA had on 9 November conducted surface production tests of two wells in connection with the Sepanjang oil field reactivation program.
Surface production test on SED#4 well recorded a production rate of 4,500 bopd by 12/64” and 16/64” choke. Meanwhile, the SED#3 well resulted in an oil output rate of 3,800 bopd.
The Sepanjang oil field reactivation program was started in mid-2022. The activities included the re-installation of separator production facilities, maintenance and repair of x-tree wellhead, and repair of pipelines.
MGA Utama holds a 100 percent interest in the Sepanjang and Pagerungan Utara Block, which was acquired on 12 January 2023. The block contains two oil fields, namely Sepanjang field and Pagerungan Utara Offshore (PUO) field. The block was initially operated by ARBNI, which was then replaced by KEI Ltd in 2018.
