Vice President Megawati Sukarnoputri failed to show up on Tuesday to open the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA)'s 27th annual convention and exhibition at the Jakarta Hilton Convention Center.
The two-day convention and exhibition was then officiated by the secretary general of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Djoko Darmono.
A number of government officials and experts from various fields are scheduled to speak at the two-day convention, which is participated by some 50 national and multinational oil companies.
State oil and gas firm Pertamina acting president Priyambodo Mulyosudirjo said more than 100 papers would be presented in the convention's 21 session.
Emil Salim, chairman of the National Economic Council, became the first person to present his presentation on Tuesday, discussing the prospects and opportunities of oil and gas businesses in Indonesia, followed by ARCO senior vice president corporate planning Dennis Schiffel and the World Bank's energy coordinator Davis Haives.
