Permadi made the statement after meeting with several descendants of the king in Medan on Friday.
The king's descendants, accompanied by their lawyer, told Permadi that the old palace had been damaged by the spray of natural gas and the explosion effects from Pertamina's operation.
Both the descendants of the king and Pertamina agreed to appoint an investigation team from the University of Trisakti in Jakarta to assess the extent of the damage and the amount of compensation payable by Pertamina.
The investigation team announced their assessment results on Oct. 26, 1999 but thus far Pertamina had yet to pay the compensation.
The paper did not reveal the compensation figures.
Permadi said the case demonstrated that Pertamina still had the New Order mentality, He promised to ask the House of Representatives to question Pertamina on the case. (*)
