PT Kereta Kencana Bangun Perkasa is currently processing acquisition of several bauxite mines in Riau islands and West Kalimantan provinces to further expand the company?s bauxite mining operations.
The company expects the acquisition will be completed before the implementation of the government?s ban on export of unprocessed minerals in 2014. The ban is part of the full implementation of the 2009 mining law which no longer allows exports of unprocessed minerals.
?All of the bauxite production, both from the Tanjung Pinang mine or new mines would be processed into smelting grade alumina, which will be further processed into pure aluminum ingot,? the company?s advisor Ladjiman Damanik told Petromindo.com mining news portal on Monday.
At present, Kereta Kencana operates a bauxite mine covering an area of 179 hectares in Tanjung Pinang, Riau islands. From January to October, this year, the company produced 189,000 wet metric tons of bauxite ores.
All the bauxite production are exported to China.
