IDX-listed base metal producer PT Kapuas Prima Coal Tbk (IDX: ZINC) announced that the operation of its zinc smelter, managed by its subsidiary PT Kobar Lamandau Mineral, has been delayed, with the earliest production now expected by late 2025. The project was previously targeted to commence operations this year. The update was shared by Padli Noor, Director of Operations, during the company’s public expose on Monday (16 December).
“Operations at the Kobar Lamandau zinc smelter have experienced slight delays. Initially set for completion in 2024, the facility is now expected to begin operating no earlier than the end of 2025,” Padli said.

The zinc smelter, which has an input capacity of 81,546 tons of zinc concentrate, is progressing toward completion and is designed to produce 30,000 tons of zinc ingots annually at a purity level of 99.99%. The project employs hydrometallurgy technology with a total investment of US$68 million.
Meanwhile, Kapuas Prima’s lead smelter, operated by PT Kapuas Prima Citra, has been fully completed (100%). Using pyrometallurgy technology, the facility has a processing capacity of 40,000 tons of lead concentrate and produces 20,000 tons of bullion annually at a purity level of 99.50%. The total investment for the lead smelter amounts to US$15 million.
