State railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) transported 13.3 million tons of coal in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 7.58% increase compared to the same period last year, supported by ongoing improvements in logistics efficiency.
KAI’s coal shipment volume in March alone reached 4.45 million tons, up 5.28% from 4.22 million tons recorded in March 2024, the company said in a statement on Friday

The company reported an average monthly coal transport volume exceeding 4.43 million tons in Q1, reinforcing its contribution to national logistics stability
KAI is also optimizing train turnaround times and expanding cooperation with both state-owned and private mining companies to strengthen the coal supply chain nationwide.
KAI operates coal transportation trains in the southern part of Sumatra, transporting coal for miners such as PT Bukit Asam Tbk. (IDX: PTBA).
