Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has started lobbying holders of the mining business permits (IUPs) and mining support companies to establish a more powerful association on coal and mineral mining.

Kadin's division on mining affairs, the initiator of the planned association, said that it would also recruit miners and mining support firms which are not members of the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA).

"We want the IUPs holders to have a voice in helping the government to determine mining policy in the future," Vince Gowan, Kadin member told Petromindo.com.

He said that the current association (IMA) could recruit only less than 50 companies as its members, while "There are over 10,000 companies that hold IUPs or run mining support businesses which have not become member of any related association. Those are our target," he said.

Vince claimed that about 100 companies had raised commitment to join the new association.

The first gathering to formulate the association is slated next week.

The idea of the planned association seems to have stemmed from the mounting concerns over the last two government mining regulations related to added-value and share divestment matters.
