State owned electricity firm PT Indonesia Power had managed to secure coal supply for June and July for its Suralaya coal fired power plant, which supplies almost 30 percent of Java power requirement.
Indonesia Power was recently faced with coal shortage, which almost forced the company to cut down its power supply.
In a meeting between Indonesia Power and the Association of Indonesian Coal Producers, PT Bukit Asam, Adaro Indonesia, Kideco and Berau Coal agreed to supply 485,000 tons, 135,000 tons, 180,000 ton and 45,000 tons of coal respectively for June delivery.
For July delivery, Bukit Asam will supply 485,000 tons, Adaro and Kideco will supply 135,000 tons each and Berau coal will supply 45,000 tons.
Indonesia Power, which has the capacity of 3400 MW needs 900,000 tons of coal per month and additional 90,000 tons for safety stock.
The supply shortage would be covered by late shipment from May, which was expected to be delivered in early June and the coal stock Indonesia Power bought from the spot market. (alex/godang)
