The Indonesia Mining Association (IMA) would gather its members and holders of mining business permits (IUPs) to discuss on whether it would file a judicial review on Mining Law Number 4/2009.
IMA Executive Director Syahrir Abubakar said that the association would file judicial review if the assessment found that the law would have negative impacts to the country.
"We see the environment damages are getting worse (since the issuance of mining law) as there are so many small scale miners," said Syahrir to Petromindo.com.
Syahrir said that there are currently over ten thousands IUPs issued by either local or central government of which only less than half of which secured the clean and clear status. "So there are about 6.000 'uncleaned' IUPs which are potentials to worsen the environment," he said.
The association is also reviewing the potential loss of state revenue due to investors diverting their investment due to the uncertainty of mining regulation in Indonesia.
