The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has issued a warning to state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) over the underdevelopment of three geothermal fields.
“If they are not developed, it (the licenses) will be revoked. These three fields are WKP Gunung Sirung in East Nusa Tenggara Province, WKP Oka Ile Ange in East Nusa Tenggara Province, and WKP Danau Ranau in Lampung,” a source within the ministry, who requested anonymity, told Petromindo.com on Friday.
According to the Petromindo Renewable Energy Database, PLN was tasked with the development of these three geothermal working areas (WKPs) by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Kementerian ESDM) in 2018.

As of February 2025, no exploration drilling activities have taken place at any of the fields.
Previously, PLN had opened the opportunity for joint management of its WKPs, including these three fields, under the GEECA scheme. However, the tender failed to attract potential partners.
WKP Atadei is located in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. PLN plans to develop this project with a capacity of 10 MW.
WKP Oka Ile Ange is located in Flores Timur Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The development plan for this field is also for 10 MW.
WKP Danau Ranau, located in Lampung Barat Regency, Lampung Province, is estimated to have a potential of up to 210 MW. PLN plans to develop this field with a capacity of 20 MW.
