The Joko Widodo government has set a plan to scrap the low-octane Premium fuel from Jan. 1, 2021 as a move to reduce emissions and contribute to the global efforts of climate change control.

The ruling is in line with the Decree of Ministry of Environment and Forestry Number 20, 2017 on Research Octane Number (RON), said Director General for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control M.R. Karliansyah.

He said initially, the ruling will apply in Java, Bali and Bali islands (Jamali).

CEO for Subholding Commercial and Trading of Pertamina Masud Khamid said the decision is in the hands of the government. "The decision to scrap or not a fuel product is the authority of the government as the regulator, not Pertamina," Masud said Saturday (14/11).

Acting for Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Heppy Wulansari, said the decision is in line with the commitment of Pertamina to produce environmentally friendlier products. For this reason, Pertamina has encouraged the general public to use higher-octane fuel.
