The government will issue some 29.65 million-fuel subsidy coupons per months starting April, according to deputy chairman of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Herman Haeruman.
Herman said that some 17.4 million of the coupons would be distributed to the poor families to allow purchasing kerosene at the current price level of Rp 280 per liter.
He added that 11.25 million coupons would go to public transportation to allow the purchase of premium gasoline and automotive diesel at the current price level.
The government will start to raise fuel prices next month. But they're 17.4 million poor families and 45,000 public transportations are protected from the price increase.
But there are now concerns that the coupon might be counterfeited.
Herman said that the government was preparing a verification process to prevent collusion and nepotism, and to avoid counterfeit. (*)
