State Minister of Environment Sonny Keraf said on Monday the government would decide whether to review the mining contract of work of copper and gold mining company PT Freeport Indonesia after the government's integrated team finish their job in June this year, Berpolitik Internet news agency reported.
He said the team has been studying Freeport's divestment obligation, environmental program, community development program and royalty payment.
"Everything will be decided by the team," Sonny said after a meeting with Coordinating Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry Kwik Kian Gie.
Meanwhile, Media Indonesia reported that several local experts and a non-governmental organization Sabang-Merauke Forum (Forsam) called on Tuesday on Freeport to be more active to disseminate the results of the audits on the company by either local or foreign experts to make the public well understand its problem.
They said during a discussion that many people have a subjective view of the company due to the lack of information on the company's activities. (*)
