France to invest $10 billion in energy sector

The plan was unveiled by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa following a meeting with a business delegation from France including Minister of Foreign Trade Pierre Lellouche and Transport Minister Thierry Mariani at his office on Friday.
Hatta said that the total investment from France within the next few years could reach up to $10 billion mostly in energy and oil and gas sectors.
Total?s CEO Yves-Louis Darricarrere, who also joined the meeting, said that the French company would invest about $2 billion in Mahkam oil block, and that it would continue to operate in Indonesia even after the current contract to operate the oil block ended in 2017.
Meanwhile Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chairman Gita Wirjawan said that mining projects which involved French companies included the nickel mine in Weda Bay in Halmahera, North Maluku.
He said that French mining company Eramet would cooperate with state mining company PT Aneka Tambang to develop the nickel mine, which will absorb investment of about $2 billion. (*)
