EPC companies consortium hopeful to win W. Papua LNG plant construction project

EPC company PT Rekabangun Energi Nusantara (REN) is teaming up with Chinese EPC contractor Xinjiang Petroleum Engineering Co. Ltd to bid for the construction of an LNG project owned by PT Layar Nusantara Gas (PT LNG) in Bintuni Bay West Papua.

According to the REN release, the bidding process has reached the final stage.

“We are hoping to be able to emerge as the winner for the project,” REN CEO Noor Korompot said in the release. He did not provide further details.

LNG is a unit of Malaysia based firm Genting Group, which also has 100 percent interest in Kasuri block, onshore West Papua.  PT LNG plans to develop a 1.2 MTPA floating LNG plant in Teluk Bintuni to process 230 MMCFD of gas from the block’s Asap, Kido, Merah (AKM) gas fields.

The project is expected to come onstream in late 2025 or early 2026.
