Environmental watchdog studies complaints against Arutmin

The local environmental watchdog (Bapedalda) in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, has recently visited the Muara Satui fishermen village in Kotabaru regency following protest from the fishermen that the activity of coal ship belonging to Arutmin has caused massive erosion in the area.

The fishermen also complained that their daily catch had declined due to the increasing activity of the ship in the local waters.

In a separate article, Banjarmasin Post also criticized Arutmin for its lack of a clear strategy to cope with environmental problem its coal operation. (*)
