State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina’s oil refinery in Dumai, Riau Province, is gradually returning to optimum production capacity as a number of facilities that have been affected by the recent explosion and fire incidents have gradually started operations.
Area Manager for Communications, Relations and CSR of the Dumai Refinery Unit, Agustiawan was quoted by katadata.co.id as saying that following the incident, a number of facilities including hydrogen (H2) plant units 701 and 702 as well as hydrocracking units (HCUs) 212 and 211 had stopped operations.
“The two H2 plant units have resumed normal operations since Thursday (13 April and Saturday (15 April). The start-up process of the HCU-212 had also been implemented last Saturday (15 April). Meanwhile, the HCU-211 is now in the process of normalization,” he said on Friday (21 April).

The Dumai refinery, was hit by an explosion and fire incident on 1 April, is the country’s third largest refinery with total production capacity of 170 MBSD, or accounting for 16.5 percent of the total capacity of Pertamina’s refineries. The refinery’s supplies about 26 percent of the national fuel oil demand.
The refinery’s main product is automotive diesel, and is supplied to fulfill demand in the northern part of Sumatra region.
