Committed to realizing national strategic projects, Pertamina presses ahead with refinery RDMP projects

PT Pertamina (Persero) ensures that investment in strategic projects in all business lines continues. This is done for the future of national energy security and independence. Even though Pertamina is currently being hit by triple-shock due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Pertamina remains committed to carrying out strategic projects that are useful for maintaining and increasing oil and gas production and national energy products in the next few years.

In an effort to realize national energy security in the future, Pertamina through its refining & petrochemical sub-holding PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (PT KPI) is committed to upgrading refineries in Indonesia which is called the Refinery Master Development Program (RDMP). The project will increase refinery capacity, improve product quality, and reduce the cost of production of fuel oil (BBM) which will boost foreign exchange and tax revenues.

Throughout 2020, PT KPI has pooled existing energy resources to carry out national strategic projects consisting of RDMP Balikpapan, RDMP Cilacap & Biorefinery, RDMP Balongan Phase 1, 2, and 3, RDMP Plaju & Green Refinery (Biorefinery).

PT KPI's Corporate Secretary, Ifki Sukarya, said that one of the national strategic projects that had a major impact was the Balikpapan RDMP and Lawe-lawe projects, which are one of Pertamina's largest projects with a value of up to US$ 6.5 billion. The Balikpapan Refinery RDMP which currently has progressed in physical development by 27.99%. "The project runs with strict health protocols, as well as encouraging economic recovery programs because it absorbs more than 5,000 workers at this time," he said.

"Pertamina's project work provides multiplier effects for people's lives, especially related to employment with an estimated figure of 15,000 workers at the peak of the construction phase and 600 to 800 workers when it is operational and the target for TKDN absorption (domestic component level) is 35%, "added Ifki.

Ifki further explained that the Balikpapan RDMP Refinery will increase the production capacity of the RU V Balikpapan refinery from 260 kpbd to 360 kpbd and produce quality products that meet Euro V standards. Euro V standard products themselves have the main advantage of being more environmentally friendly with fuel. better quality oil with a more economical level of consumption. This will clearly provide benefits to the wider community because it encourages more positive environmental conditions for air quality and the environment in Indonesia.

"Pertamina International Refinery is committed to completing the achievement of the National Strategic Project by paying attention to the need for National Energy for environmentally friendly products," concluded Ifki.
