Baowu Resources, a subsidiary of China Baowu Steel Group, has signed new cooperation agreements with four leading Indonesian companies, PT Bayan Resources Tbk, PT Dexin Steel Indonesia, PT Detian Coking Indonesia, and PT Alamtri Resources Indonesia Tbk, according to a post published in March 2025 via the Official WeChat Account of China Baowu.

The agreements, signed in early January, aim to strengthen long-term collaboration in coal supply, steelmaking raw materials, and integrated operations across the region.

“At the beginning of the new year, Baowu Resources held in-depth discussions on cooperation projects with four companies in Indonesia, including PT Bayan Resources Tbk, a leading coal mining company; PT Dexin Steel Indonesia and PT Detian Coking Indonesia, the largest steel companies; and Adaro Mining (PT Alamtri Resources Indonesia Tbk), the largest coking coal miner. A new round of cooperation agreements was signed, injecting new impetus into Baowu Resources' efforts to promote international high-quality development,” the company said.

On January 8, Baowu Resources’ subsidiary Hong Kong Baofeng signed a long-term thermal coal supply contract for 2025 with PT Bayan Resources Tbk. The signing marks a comprehensive upgrade of the cooperation between the two parties, which began in 2024. Baowu said the deal represents an important breakthrough in the development of overseas thermal coal resources and lays a solid foundation for long-term cooperation. However, the company did not disclose the coal volume or contract duration.

On January 9, Baowu Resources’ Singapore subsidiary signed strategic cooperation agreements for 2025 with PT Dexin Steel Indonesia and PT Detian Coking Indonesia in Jakarta. The parties will explore diversified cooperation models in bulk raw materials and fuels.

Dexin Steel is a comprehensive steel production enterprise integrating coking, sintering, ironmaking, steelmaking, and rolling, with an annual steel capacity of over 7 million tons and coking capacity of 2.8 million tons. Detian Coking has a designed capacity of 4.7 million tons, supported by advanced facilities such as gas purification units.

Both companies are subsidiaries of Delong Steel Group and have been classified as flagship Belt and Road projects within Indonesia’s national steel industry development plan.

Also on January 9, Baowu’s Singapore subsidiary signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Adaro Mining (PT Alamtri Resources Indonesia Tbk), represented by PT Maruwai Coal and PT Lahai Coal. The agreement deepens their strategic cooperation first established in 2024 and marks a comprehensive upgrade in bilateral relations. As with the Bayan contract, the company did not disclose the coal volume or contract period.

With Indonesia’s formal accession to BRICS, the cooperation between China and Indonesia is expected to enter a new phase. Baowu noted that both parties would strengthen collaboration in mining operations, green material development, and international expansion strategies, in pursuit of sustainable and mutually beneficial growth.

The signing ceremony marks a new breakthrough for Baowu Resources’ overseas subsidiaries in tapping into the Southeast Asian market. Moving forward, Baowu said it will continue to deepen its collaboration with companies along the Belt and Road Initiative and “jointly write the next chapter in China’s global steel industry story.”
