The provincial government of Bangka Belitung Islands and tin producer PT Timah Tbk (TINS) team up to develop a jetty for Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) passenger ferry in Baki village in order to shorten the transportation route between Bangka and West Bangka Regency.
"Hopefully, PT Timah will soon launch the CSR funds that will be used to develop a jetty for 'Ro-Ro' ferry in Baki village, Parit Tiga sub-district in West Bangka," Bangka Belitung Islands Governor Erzaldi Rosman Djohan was quoted by Antara as saying in in Pangkal Pinang.
He said the jetty will be developed by PT Timah in cooperation with state-owned company PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry.
The ferry route will also help speed up the transportation of basic goods as well as the marketing of the people's agriculture, plantation and fishery products.
Djohan hopes the jetty can be developed immediately. "God willing, the construction of the jetty can be started as early as next month," he said. (*)
