Amoseas preparing EPC contract for Darajat Unit III

Independent power producer Amoseas Indonesia Inc. is planning to develop a third electricity generating facility (Darajat Unit III) with a 100 MW nominal size Geothermal Steam Turbine power plant at the Darajat geothermal complex in Garut, West Java.

In a bidding invitation released on Friday, the company said the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the power plant would be awarded in the second quarter of 2004 with plant start up in early 2006.

?A final decision on the exact size of the unit may be made after evaluation of the received Bids, based on well-defined Bid evaluation criteria,? the company added.

The Darajat Unit III geothermal power project is projected to have lifetime of 40 years, according to Amoseas?s presentation in September. In the presentation, the company also said that the project would cost around US$ 160-220 million.

Two geothermal power plants are currently running in the geothermal complex namely the 55 MW Darajat Unit I, which is operated by PT Indonesia Power, and the 70 MW of Unit II is operated by Amoseas. Their electricity is sold directly to state power firm PT PLN.

Amoseas, wholly owned subsidiary of U.S. oil giant ChevronTexaco, also operates North Duri Co-generation Project in support of PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia?s operation in Riau Province. (robert)
