The Martabe Gold Mine, located in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, operates across 646.08 hectares as of December 2024. Since production began on 24 July 2012, the mine has processed over 6 million tonnes of ore annually, producing more than 200,000 ounces of gold and 1–2 million ounces of silver annually.
The Martabe Gold Mine operates under a 30-year Contract of Work (CoW) with the Indonesian Government. Initially spanning 6,560 km² in 1997, the concession area has been refined to 130,252 hectares (1,303 km²), encompassing South Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, North Tapanuli and Mandailing Natal Regencies.
As of June 2024, the mine’s mineral resources were estimated at 6.1 million ounces of gold and 59 million ounces of silver, while ore reserves were calculated at 3.2 million ounces of gold and 32 million ounces of silver.
Martabe Gold Mine is seeking a qualified professional to join our Mining team, contributing to the department’s capabilities and supporting the achievement of its strategic objectives.
ENGINEER – HYDROGEOLOGY

This position will be based at the Martabe Gold Mine Site within the Mining Department and will report directly to the Senior Engineer – Hydrogeology.
The Engineer – Hydrogeology is responsible for conducting and overseeing daily hydrogeology activities to support Martabe Open Cut Mine Operations. Key responsibilities include assessing surface and groundwater characteristics, managing slope depressurisation and dewatering processes, maintaining existing hydrogeology monitoring and reporting systems, evaluating the need for additional monitoring and depressurisation programs, and ensuring effective communication with Mine Operations personnel. The role also involves conducting technical assessments and updating or developing procedural controls under the direction and guidance of the Senior Engineer – Hydrogeology and/or the Superintendent of Geotechnical & Hydrogeology.
Dimension: Technical issues are managed under the direction of the Senior Engineer – Hydrogeology. The role requires close collaboration with the PTAR Mining team, Contractors, TSF, and various Sections to perform data acquisition, analysis, and reporting related to dewatering and slope depressurisation, with the aim of supporting mine production and enhancing ground stability.
Candidates for this position are expected to meet the following qualifications and criteria:
1. A bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering or Mining Engineering. Master’s degree in Hydrogeology is preferred.
2. 3-4 years of relevant experience in hydrogeology, particularly in open pit mining.
3. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
4. Extensive knowledge of hydrogeological software, such as MODFLOW.
5. Familiar in operating Surpac or Global Mapper.
6. Significant experience in mine dewatering, groundwater drilling & monitoring, contaminated site investigations, and Acid Mine Drainage.
