Overview
The heavy equipment production in the first quarter of this year increased by 49.11 percent to 2,113 units compared to 1,417 units in the corresponding period of last year due to the high demand in mining sector.
The demand for heavy equipment from mining sector has been increasing in line with the trend of rising mining commodity prices recently. On the other hand, there is also a carryover of a number of requests for heavy equipment in 2021 which were previously not fulfilled.
In terms of composition, hydraulic excavators still dominate heavy equipment production with a total of 1,814 units or 85.84 percent of the total production from January to March 2022. The remaining 14 percent consisted of bulldozer production of 205 units, dump truck 65 units, and 29 motor graders.
The Indonesian Heavy Industry Association (Hinabi) predicted that the heavy equipment production in 2022 is projected at between 9,000 units and 10,000 units, higher than the realized production in 2021 of 6,740 units.
The webinar would explore the outlook of heavy equipment in mining sector in the second semester this year and what is the availability of heavy equipment in the market now. How miners could improve efficiency, safety and productivity in mining operation with the use of digitalization in the heavy equipment industry.
